5 Brunch Cocktails to Indulge in This Weekend

Black Sheep Brunch, Black Sheep Bloody Mary

Brunch Cocktails You Need in Your Life

After reading this list back, I realized two things: The physical state at which I arrive to a brunch table is more frail than I previously thought, and my preferred method of hangover elixir typically includes ginger, spice, or both. If you don’t like either of those flavors, stick to the basics and keep an eye out for future lists catered to your preferences. But if you find yourself needing a healing pick-me-up and you haven’t had these palliative life savers yet, I strongly urge you to do so as soon as possible.

Gin, carrot-orange shrub, ginger-jalapeño cordial, sparkling wine, egg white, and cayenne. Does this one need an explanation or did I have you at ginger-jalapeño cordial? A similar version lives on Proper’s regular cocktail menu sans sparkling wine. Now that they’ve made it brunchy by adding some bubbly it’s pretty much the perfect combination of hangover whoop ass, fruitiness, zest, and froth. But then again, no surprise here that these guys can make a ridiculously good cocktail.

Brunch Cocktail, Toutant Brunch

Sunday Brunch  /  Restaurant Info

You know how mimosas are great and all but more than one can be too sweet on the palette? Well as per usual Toutant is here to accommodate your taste buds. Their Jazz Hands cocktail balances out the sugar overload of a mimosa with a kick of Campari. Be forewarned, you can probably drink 10 of these bad boys in one brunch shift (not speaking from experience or anything).

Brunch Cocktail, Martin Cooks

Saturday Brunch  /  Restaurant Info

If you’ve had locally-brewed kombucha, you know that you pretty much immediately feel better about your mind, body, and soul after a swig of this fermented beverage. Okay, so that may be an exaggeration, but we’re pretty sure that you will feel at least 5% healthier after drinking a bottle. Anyway, onto the important stuff. Being that Bootleg Bucha has set up shop in the Horsefeathers Market, Martin Cooks went ahead and added booze to the bucha, and let’s just say it’s the hangover cure of the *century*. On a recent trip to MC I had the pleasure of trying Carrot Ginger Pineapple Kombucha mixed with rum which was utterly delightful. I hope, for your sake, that you have the chance to experience the same. Whatever the flavor, we’re pretty sure any mixture of kombucha and liquor is going to put a smile on your face. Side note: Martin Cooks is closing on May 28th, so get it while you can!

Soooo I’m going to go right ahead and say it… if this bloody would’ve presented itself at the Buffalo Bloody Mary Fest on March 6th, it would have won. Hands down. The original Kimchi Bloody Mary Mix by Barrel + Brine hits you with the perfect combination of spice, tang, and that traditional bloody mary flavor that we love so much. It’s also garnished with a Barrel + Brine pickle (side note: you now need a jar of Barrel + Brine pickles in your fridge at all times for the rest of your life). This specific bloody is not exactly on the menu, so be nice to the bartender and experience the advantages. Ready for the best part? Barrel + Brine will be releasing the kimchi bloody mix this summer. You heard me right – make it your own, Kween.

Saturday & Sunday Brunch  /  Restaurant Info

If a drink has muddled strawberries in it, it’s just begging to be ordered. Add bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, bitters, and ginger beer and you’ve got yourself a hangover home run. A riff on the classic Whiskey Buck cocktail, the Kentucky Buck is just as refreshing as it sounds and not too sweet. Hence, exactly how a brunch drink should be.
