Live at O’Larkin 2014

Larkin Square in Buffalo | Step Out Buffalo

Tomorrow, Friday March 14 is the second annual Live at O’Larkin in Larkin Square. Many of you may have already heard great things about summer evenings spent in Larkin Square on beloved Food Truck Tuesdays or Live at Larkin Wednesdays. I know I couldn’t stop gushing about the events at Larkin after attending them last summer. For those of you that haven’t heard, it’s a great time! There’s something about the space, the trucks, the music, the relaxing atmosphere, the past time of people watching and the energy of a rejuvenated street corner if you will.

I’m sure the brains of Larkin Square have been turning all winter in anticipation of what I can only guess will be an even bigger year for the organization. The more people experience Larkin Square, the more they love it. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait until June to get in on the next event at Larkin Square. They are hosting an Irish Celebration this Friday, cleverly titled Live at O’Larkin. It will be complete with live Irish music, Irish dancers and food trucks!

Here’s the description via LarkinSquare.com:

Join us this Friday for the second annual Live at O’Larkin and a special edition of “Food Truck Friday” all in Larkin Square from 5-8 pm.  The weather forecast looks great and we will have heat on the board walk and sprinkled throughout theSquare. The music and Irish dancing will be fantastic! Its time to celebrate Spring, finally, returning to Buffalo!

Francis Folsom Cleveland Exhibit

Tue Jul 22 - Wed Sep 03
Jackson Federal Courthouse, Buffalo

2014 marks the 150th birth anniversary of First Lady Frances Folsom Cleveland, the only native Buffalonian to occupy the White House. The Smithsonian has her wedding dress and inaugural ball gown, but what they don’t have are the hundreds of pieces of memorabilia in the Mark D. Evans Collection. It features portraits, photographs, plaques, textiles, badges, ribbons, china, glass, trays, spoons, and commercial advertising depicting America’s youngest and arguably most popular first lady. The exhibit will focus on her birth in Buffalo in 1864, her unique White House wedding, her three daughters who grew up in the White House, dozens of pieces of advertising that attempted to capitalize on her popularity, and her life and influence as first lady. A special feature is a mother of pearl shuttle and bodkin with her image alongside President Grover Cleveland, used in a type of needlework called tatting. A velvet crazy quilt contains political ribbons and the presidential couple in the center with the motto “Two Hearts That Beat As One.” Her personal alligator skin card case with her initials F.F.C. is also on display. The exhibit is presented by the Buffalo Presidential Center
