ICYLUAR, HARBORCENTER is the new cool kid on the block. Literally, because they take up that entire block. Comprised of shops, (716) Food & Sport, Tim Horton’s, the rinks, and the new Buffalo Marriott HARBORCENTER Hotel, to say there’s a lot going on at this once vacant spot is an understatement. But HARBORCENTER’s greatest, in our humble opinion, feature is also it’s very own hidden gem – Panorama on Seven aka the restaurant and bar on the seventh floor of the aforementioned Marriott.
Panorama on Seven is in a prime location situated across the street from Canalside, kiddy-cornered with the Cobblestone District, AND smack dab on the ~free~ portion of the NFTA Metro Rail, making it the perfect place to go before or after any outing basically ever. On top of that, their food and cocktail menus are setting the bar pretty high with their use of local and statewide ingredients, innovative offerings (just wait til you hear about their drinks made using porthole infusers on their #secretmenu), and all-in-house-made-from-scratch goodness that uses fresh seasonal ingredients. Woof. Here’s a look at what they’ve got going on for their new Spring/Summer Menu:
Fork & Knife Additions:
Hanger Steak – This USDA Prime Steak with Peppercorn Demi comes with Truffle Fries, because who doesn’t seriously love truffle fries? No one.
Tomahawk Steak – Let’s put it this way, when you see this bad boy it will be hard to keep your eyes from bulging out of their sockets. The presentation is that impressive, not to mention the sheer size, flavor, and inventive accompaniments. The Tomawak is a 22oz. Center Cut with Truffled Whipped Potato and Buttermilk Onion Straws (!), topped with Bordeaux & Cherry Reduction and a pad of Foie Butter for good measure. If you had any doubt about Chef Karl Stoehr’s skills before, you won’t after this.
“Chicken & Waffles” – You know we love our chicken and waffle combos here at SOB, so when we saw this “go big or go home” approach, we were more than pleased. Panorama’s take on the beloved sweet and savory dish involves Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Bourbon Infused Waffle (yeah they went there – they like infusing stuff and we like them for it), and Wilted Rainbow Chard topped with Bourbon-Maple Syrup and none other than some Honey Butter. If you didn’t just drool you’re not human.
Duck 2 Ways – A duck duo just waiting to knock your socks off. Expect seared breast, duck Confit-Potato Cake, Rainbow Chard, and blackberry. #duckconfitallday
Hudson Valley Foie Gras – Cherry and Sauternes Compote with Aged Balsamic and Brioche French Toast, AKA the classiest snack there ever was.
Halibut Crudo – This picture perfect (no seriously, get your phone ready) seafood dish is perfect for those that don’t like their fish too fishy. Accompanied by Orange pieces, Chive, Beets, and the figurative cherry on top – Toasted Macadamia Nuts, the Halibut is in good company.
Frisée Salad – Salad never sounded, or tasted, so good. While this is the ultimate lunchtime treat, it’ll be difficult not to order every time you visit no matter the hour. This masterpiece has Goat Cheese topped with Marinated Heirloom Tomatoes, and a tangle of Frisée greens topped with a lovely Warm Lardon Vinaigrette and a Poached Egg ready to ooze. I’ll say it again, salad never tasted so good.
Salad Niçoise – The more robust salad of the two new additions, but still with an egg on it. The Salad Niçoise features a cobb like presentation with a bed of buttery Bibb Lettuce, a generous portion of perfectly seasoned Seared Tuna, Haricot Vert, Hard Cooked Egg, Kalamata Olive, Heirloom Cherry Tomato, Confit Potato, Red Onion, Anchovy, and a light Sherry Vinaigrette. It’s basically a full meal on a salad plate and we’re into it.
Hummingbird Special – Buffalo Marriott HARBORCENTER Hotel Pastry Chef Bridget English has outdone herself with this one. The combination texture and flavor in this carrot cake-style (no carrots were harmed in the making, just bananas and things) treat is kind of to dye for. The grilled pineapple takes it straight to the top of our summer must eat list.
Rhubarb Trifle – This big (and we mean big) cup of sweet, sweet yumminess is layered like a trifle, puts rhubarb’s best foot forward, and is topped with a house made snickerdoodle (BTW everything is made from scratch on the Panorama menu). If you like fruity desserts you can’t go wrong.
Pro-tip: When you eat at Panorama on Seven get the valet parking on the Canalside side of the building – on them. Also order the super-limited infused Manhattans and Old Fashioneds on their secret cocktail menu. They infuse them with our new obsession, the porthole infuser, and make very small batches of each cocktail, each day…and once they’re gone they’re gone!
