This is simple. In honor of all things v-day, we’ve chosen 10 random things we absolutely LOVE in Buffalo & WNY right now. It’s our Love list.
405 Amherst St, Buffalo, NY 14207 | (716) 876-6607 | website
Arguably the best sausages in WNY (if not the world) and some really good cheeses, deli and meat items too. This home grown Buffalo shop is where artisan and food collide. Augsburger Bratwurst, German Bratwurst, Polish Sausage, Chorizo, Andouille, German with beer, Bangers, Calabrese, Swedish, Russian Boar Sausage, Orange Cumin Lamb Sausage…OH MY —– *^#^!! If you haven’t had a Spars sausage you haven’t lived.
2. Aurora Brew Works
191 Main St, East Aurora, NY 14052 | (716) 652-2337 | facebook
A beer store with tables, taps and beer to try. Their selection is seriously unique and the concept cool. We’ve heard from some local Brew Works lovers that you can have any food delivered or bring whatever you want and eat it right at their cozy tables looking out to Main Street. They get a variety of new selections in frequently. If you’re looking for something different, make a pit stop in EA. (Did we mention LLoyd sets up shop Friday & Saturday evenings just outside? This collaboration is actually one of my favorite things ever.)
3. Black Rock Kitchen & Bar
491 Amherst St, Buffalo, NY 14207 | (716) 551-0261 | listing
BRKB has an awesome vibe. It’s laid back with a bar feel, but not so much that you feel like you should only be there after 10pm. The place is just plain old cool. The food on the other hand, is OUTSTANDING. You’ll have an extremely tough time deciding on what to order. Then once you’ve tasted the food, you’ll dream about how amazing the other options must be too. The portions are pretty damn big and the preparation is phenomenal. (EVIDENCE: Ribs pictured above)
4. English Pork Pie Company
1176 South Park Avenue Buffalo, NY 14220 | (716) 823-3772 | website
Comfort food at it’s finest. (Can all comfort food be one of my favorite things?) Anyways – The English Pork Pie Company sends pies to pie deprived cities across America, but they are located right here in our hometown. They have everything from Classic Pork Pies (not to be confused with Traditional) to the Gala Pork Pie (baked with egg throughout) , Stilton (type of cheese) Pork Pie (“brilliant”) to Scotch Eggs (hard boiled eggs and sausage in Scotch Egg Pasties covered in golden, English bread crumbs). So, there’s that. Pick ’em up, take ’em home & bake away.
5. Fallymac Food Truck
Roams the streets of Buffalo | [email protected] | feature
This mac ‘n’ cheese food truck is pretty new to the scene unlike the owner’s flavor pairing skills from what we’ve tasted. Listen, maybe you think you’re too good for mac (“I’m not a kid anymore.”) I’m here to tell you that this is grown up mac and cheese, people – which noone is too good for. Fallymac is brining it to the table with ingredients worth tasting and combinations that will surprise you.
6. Charlie the Butcher
1065 Wehrle Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221 | 716-633-8330 | website
The Beef on Weck was invented by a German immigrant in the 1880s in Buffalo (obv). As we all know there are a lot of good places to get your weck beefed here in WNY, but Charlie has made it so easy to get the goods. According to Charlie’s website he got his start “on a Wednesday in June of 1988 when Tom Jolls and Charlie debuted the first of many WKBW Backyard Barbeques”. What could be better than a Buffalo love story that includes Beef on Weck and Commander Tom?
7. The Buffalo Bandits
First Niagara Center, 1 Seymour H Knox III Plaza, Buffalo, NY 14203 | (716) 855-4444 | games
They are on a (kimmelweck) roll. The games are a good time AND they’re performing well! We’ve hit the jackpot, people! The Bandits have give western New Yorkers some real entertainment lately – FYI lacrosse is fun to watch. It you have yet to experience a game, now is a prime time to hop on the band wagon.
8. The Cobblestone District
130 S Park Ave, Buffalo, NY 14203 | (716) 848-1930 | website
Buffalo’s Cobblestone District is slowly becoming a destination for music & food. The recent addition of Buffalo Iron Works as a music venue/bar/sandwich haven along with Helium Comedy Club and the soon-to-be-completed development of nearby Pegulaville means the district is definitely something to check out. We predict it won’t stop there. The brick streets and industrial buildings scream up and coming.
9. The Rotary Rink
50 Fountain Plaza Buffalo, New York 14203 | (716) 854-7465 | website
Right downtown on the corner of Main and Chippewa sits a public outdoor ice skating rink. Many know this, but how often do you take advantage? Skating is free and rental skates are $2-$3. I can’t think of a better idea for a day out with kids, a date or a Buffalo bucket list adventure. Perhaps practice some of the moves you’ve picked up from Sochi?
10. Tralf Music Hall
622 Main St, Buffalo, New York 14202 | (716) 852-2860 | events
The people at the Tralf have been bringing great entertainment to Buffalo for decades. Year in and year out these guys keep the music flowing. This is a great venue where you can sit back, relax, have a cold beverage in a civilized setting and enjoy the show.
