100 Acres @ Hotel Henry Does Brunch Friday – Sunday. Do I need to repeat myself?

100 Acres at Hotel Henry has been serving up real kitchen sexiness for a few years now (okay, since Exec Chef Mike Thill joined the team), and Saturday and Sunday brunch have always been on that bill. THEN they decided to crank the heat and add FRIDAY BRUNCH to their services this Valentine’s Day. Talk about knowing what the people want!

My friend Ashley and I visited on a balmy February Sunday. We wandered through to the bar area to take our seats in a beautiful, loungey corner complete with pillows. We ordered two Cafe Morenx cause we were in need of coffee but also in need of booze. This espresso and rum concoction complete with coconut, cream, and nutmeg really, really hit the “I need a boozy coffee” spot. We also got in an order for the avocado toast cause we had heard that it was “the thing” to order from a few friends.

Alright so let me just go ahead and let you know that the avocado toast was absolutely unbelievable. Citrusy, oily, crunchy, creamy, fresh, tangy – all atop a perfectly toasted piece of sourdough. It’s by far the best I’ve had in Buffalo and Ashley and I agreed that it only compared to one we had in Tulum, Mexico on a visit last year.

To continue the feast we ordered our mains – the smoked carrot hash, the brisket egg and cheese sandwich, and the brioche French toast. Y’know what I love about an all-around fantastic meal? When the first thing wows you and then everything after that also wows you.

The smoked carrot hash is served with pickled carrots, greens, potatoes, sunny eggs, and a carrot hot sauce on the side. This dish has it all. Smoky vegetal characteristic with spicy, salty accompaniments. The carrot hot sauce is hot but SO flavorful and never overbearingly hot. The brisket egg and cheese sandwich on a brioche bun was another stunner – with melt-in-your-mouth brisket sandwiched between a heavenly bun and an egg and American cheese mixture. 

Does it get even better? I can’t believe it but it does – when I put the first bite of brioche French toast in my mouth, I actually laughed at how good it was. You ever do that? Make it your new challenge – food that actually blows your mind to the point where all you can do is laugh. There are a lot of good French toasts in this city, but this is the only one that has ever compared to my all-time favorite: the challah French toast at Dapper Goose

We were told that the Friday brunch service at Hotel Henry is essentially the same brunch menu as Saturdays and Sundays with a few more lunch-based specials sprinkled in and no cocktails. This brunch is absolutely worthy of a position in my top three brunch spots and I think we should all visit it often enough so that they have no choice but to serve it every day. 🙂
