Summer may have left the building, but that doesn’t mean it took all the great concerts with it. In fact, as temperatures are thankfully dropping into a more manageable comfort level, Buffalo’s live music scene is prepping for a busy stretch run into the holiday season. Here are the 11 shows in Buffalo this October that should be on your radar.
 



 

1. Tele Novella (The Tins, Applenium, and Jacob Peter Band will be there too)

DATE: October 1st
LOCATION: Nietzsche’s

Austin’s dreamy psych-poppers Tele Novella will make an Allentown pit-stop before bringing the Tins on board to kick off their East-Coast tour. Jacob Peter Band and Applennium will also play.

 

2. First Ward

DATE: October 14th
LOCATION: Milkie’s on Elmwood

The melodically detailed new vehicle of busy singer/songwriter Zak Ward delivers a tune up show prior to a forthcoming album release gig later this fall.

 

3. The Leones

DATE: October 15th
LOCATION: Mohawk Place

The dreamy shoegze act will celebrate the release of its long in the works debut album Ghost in the City at Buffalo’s go-to downtown venue.

 

4. Shellac

DATE: October 18th
LOCATION: The 9th Ward
Cost: $15

Fronted by in-demand producer Steve Albini, the longtime math-rock group will be making its first Buffalo visit since 2010.

 

5. M.A.G.S.

DATE: October 22nd
LOCATION: The Gypsy Parlor

The rising garage-rock three piece team up with the freshly renamed alt-pop group Stress Dolls and Windy City friends Bear Pit for a solid indie bill at the Grant St. watering hole.




 

6. Garrett Klahn

DATE: October 24th
LOCATION: Mohawk Place

Former member of the emocore pioneers Texas is the Reason, the Buffalo born Klahn will return home to share songs from his debut solo record I Don’t Care at All.

 

7. La Sera w/ Springtime Carnivore

DATE: October 26th
LOCATION: Mohawk Place

After teaming up for a wistful punk covers album, Katy Goodman and Greta Morgan will bring their respective retro-pop bands to Mohawk Place for a co-headlining show.

8. Lucius

DATE: October 26th
LOCATION: Asbury Hall

The seductive Brooklyn band will be in town promoting their slick, well-received sophomore record Good Grief.




 

9. Cute is What We Aim For

The Buffalo pop-punk giants will play the first of its back-to-back local shows to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album The Same Old Blood with a New Touch.

 

10. Lazlo Hollyfeld and Friends Play LCD Soundsystem

DATE: October 28th
LOCATION: Mohawk Place

The longtime Queen City experimental-rock act will take on the catalog of the newly reunited NYC dance-punk favorites. Emo tribute band Girl Jeans will open the evening.

11. Mallwalkers

The long dormant funk-punk collective returns to celebrate the release of its latest album Dial M For…, set to drop on local imprint Peterwalkee Records.
