When it comes to pizza, Western New York has a great thing going. From the thick layer of melted cheese to the tangy sauce and soft, full dough, Buffalo-style pizza is up there with some of the best pizza in the world if you ask us.

However, if you’ve grown tired of your standard cheese and pep we highly recommend checking out the specialty menu! We’re here to tell you that some of your favorite local pizza joints are offering up some seriously unique pizzas that are pretty much guaranteed to send your taste buds into hyperdrive.

Without further ado, here’s a guide to some of Buffalo’s craziest pizzas.

1. Jay’s Artisan Pizza – Big Mac Pizza

Jay’s Artisan Pizza has received national praise for it’s delicious homemade pies- and it’s no secret why. Their featured Big Mac Pizza known as ‘The Mac’ is the real deal with ground beef, onion, special sauce, shredded lettuce, pickles and cheese on a sesame seed crust. Say no more.

Note: this is a special that isn’t always available – but when it is, you better run.

2. Macy’s Place – 24K Gold Pizza

Macy’s Place is the place to be if you’re looking to spice things up a bit with your pizza consumption. Their gourmet pies are the stuff of pizza dreams and one look at their menu will have you convinced they are evil geniuses put on earth to ruin your diet for good. While you may not be able to find a certain pie on the menu at all times, you are guaranteed to find a crazy concoction that will do the trick – trust us. That said, a current menu item that stands out is their 24K Gold Pizza, piled with mac n cheese, queso, cheddar, mozz, and medium chicken “tendies”. 3. The Now Pizzeria – Clam Pizza

If you’re seeking a unique seafood pizza blend, the time is now. Celebrating their 50th anniversary of serving up pies to the local community, The Now has earned its clam to fame (see what we did there?) with their sizzling slices. This featured pizza consists of Olive oil, garlic sauce, freshly steamed clams, and mozzarella cheese.

4. Edies Pizza – Beef & Weck Pizza

380 Buffalo Street Hamburg, NY 14075 / Website

We can proudly say that Beef on Weck belongs on Buffalo’s Mount Rushmore of food items along with our world famous chicken wings. At Edies, they feature a speciality “Beef & Weck Pizza” that brings the best of the best into one slice. Ingredients include: savory beef with gravy topped off with melted cheese on a Kimmelweck Crust with a side of horseradish. Hungry yet?

5. Mister Pizza Elmwood – Potato Pizza

Mister Pizza on Elmwood Ave is serving up tons of the speciality pies. Treat yourself to a quite unique take on a pizza – and a stuffed potato – when you order their Potato Pizza, topped with potatoes, bacon, chives and three cheeses, served with sour cream on the side.

6. Imperial Pizza – Reuben Pizza

Known as one of the best pizzerias south of Buffalo, Imperial’s plain old cheese and pep will have you coming back for more. But if you’re looking for something on the crazier side, try their Reuben Pizza topped with Sauerkraut, Swiss Cheese, Corned Beef, and 1,000 Island Dressing. 7. Pizza Plant – Chicken Souvlaki Stuffed Pizza

Not only does this pie feature an unexpected topping, the pizza itself is a crazy style – it’s stuffed. Pizza Plant’s stuffed pizzas featured the ingredients Inside the pizza, rather than on top. This one combines chicken breast, provolone, spinach & tomato, kalamata olives, & red onion for the stuffing, then it’s topped with chopped romaine, black olives, green peppers, pepperoncini, & Greek dressing. 8. Lovejoy Pizzeria – Frank’s Cheesesteak Pizza

9. Ricotta’s Pizza – Steak/Chicken Fajita Pizza

Right in the heart of Bills country, you will find Ricotta’s Pizza which is home to a speciality steak fajita pizza that is absolutely delicious. This creation consists of rich, creamy cayenne pepper/red chili sauce, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, flame roasted peppers, onions, fajita seasoning, and your choice of Steak or Chicken.

10. TC Wheelers – Dill Pickle Pizza

341 Wheeler St., Tonawanda, NY 14150 / Website

On TC Wheelers menu, this pizza comes with a “Don’t mock it til ya try it” warning and we couldn’t agree more. The homemade garlic sauce base topped with sliced dill pickles, mozzarella cheese, and dill seasoning will have you wondering how it’s possible you’ve never had it before. They recommend adding on their everything bagel crust, to which we say heck ya.

11. Picasso’s – Spaghetti and Meatball Parmesan

Meals on pizzas – we love to see it. You’re pretty much guaranteed to be filled up after chowing down on this carbo-loaded pie with garlic butter, parmesan, oregano, marinara, oh and actual spaghetti and chopped meatballs. Woof.

12. Favorites Pizza – Honey Stung

Honey is one of those ingredients you probably didn’t know you wanted on a pizza – but we’re here to tell you, you do. The Honey Stung specialty pie from Favorites combines Honey BBQ chicken with bacon, sesame seeds and scallions to create a distinctive flavor – all on a pizza.

13. Pesci’s Pizza – Chicken Wing Dip Pizza

Sure, you’ve heard of Chicken Finger Pizza and even the occasional, slightly different but just barely Chicken Wing Pizza. But have you had Chicken Wing Dip pizza? Pesci’s offers a specialty pizza with chicken wing dip, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, and – wait for it – crushed tortilla chips. Is it just us or is this pizza so Buffalo?
