It’s been quite an exciting year for the craft spirits scene in Western New York, and especially within the city limits, distilleries, pubs, and taverns work diligently to expand the tastes and knowledge of the Queen City’s thirstiest denizens. Helping to lead the charge with creative twists on traditional spirits is Lockhouse Distillery. The beauty and brains behind Lockhouse’s unique brand of liquors is Cory Muscato. The young entrepreneur has been integral in securing important legislation from New York so that Buffalo’s beer and spirit scenes can continue to blossom.
Undaunted by the crazy schedule of Lockhouse’s ever-changing creations and scene-defining events, Muscato has had an incredibly productive year…and it’s only half over. “2017 has brought many challenges, opportunities, and growth to Lockhouse Distillery,” Muscato said. “We’re focusing now on expanding our distribution network to bring our products to all of New York State and beyond. We’re excited to be doing more in our community with events like the Third Tuesday Throwdown series and [the recently held] Cobblestone Live Music & Arts Festival, with a portion of proceeds going to benefit Planned Parenthood.
“We recently released our spring seasonal product in collaboration with the Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Sakura Gin. Made with Cherry blossoms from the Frederick Olmsted Parks System. The limited release Gin showcases the true spirit of Buffalo (pun definitely intended), a city of good neighbors, with one dollar from each bottle going back to the parks system. We’re honored to work with such a historic and prolific organization such as the Olmsted Parks Conservancy.”

With this Lockhouse now has 6 flagship products that are available year round and 2 seasonally produced spirits. When they first launched almost 4 years ago they started with only 1 product, their vodka. However, now having a much more diverse product portfolio to be able to serve WNY and reach beyond with a fully built out portfolio of craft spirits. With this, Lockhouse is now poised to grow beyond the city limits and plans are in the works for Lockhouse to make a downstate debut in the coming months.
Stay tuned for big things to come from Lockhouse in 2017 and early 2018. Keep up with all of Lockhouse’s events and announcements on via the usual social media interwebs.
