New York Upstate recently posted a list of cool underground places around Upstate New York and not one but two places right here in our own backyard were featured! You can and should check these attractions out immediately, Buffalo.
1. Cave of the Winds
Niagara Falls, NY
One of the attractions is of course “Cave of the Winds” in Niagara Falls, NY! You may be surprised to learn that this attraction takes you a whopping 175 feet into the Earth to begin your adventure – which according to newyorkupstate.com qualifies it as an underground locale. After your deep dive elevator ride you’ll get the chance to walk up a series of wooden staircases with viewing decks along the way that practically take you under the falls. Needless to say, dress to get doused.
Pro tip: The Canadian version (on the other side of the border in Canada) of this attraction offers an even more underground experience – it’s called Journey Behind The Falls.
The second local underground attraction mentioned by New York Upstate is the Lockport Caves in Lockport, NY. Guided tours, underground boat rides, and fascinating history makes the Lockport Caves an amazing addition to your bucket list during warmer months.
