Coffee Shop Crawl
Cost: $20 or less
Coffee dates are always a good idea, especially in the winter. With so many local shops all around the city, it’s easy to find a new-to-you spot to grab a cup. For less than $20, you can meet up with your date at any (or more than one) of these local spots and enjoy several menu items. You might even consider seeking out a specific night when there’s free live music. Bring your student or military ID with you everywhere; you’d be surprised how many places offer discounts.
Cost: $15 or less
Downtown Buffalo has many beautiful landmarks, and colder weather isn’t an excuse to stop exploring. Take your date on a winter tour led by Explore Buffalo, and you’ll learn a fun fact or few about our city. Don’t worry, you and your date will stay warm and cozy indoors for most of this tour. P.S. Admission is only $5 for students.
Mosey Around a Museum
Cost: $0 – $25
A trip to the museum is an excellent choice for date night, especially for first dates. The walls are filled with conversation-starters, so it’s easy to discover what you have in common. Plus, here in Buffalo a museum date is often a free date. For free admission, mark your calendar for First Fridays at Albright-Knox or Third Fridays at the Buffalo History Museum, and thank our friends at M&T Bank. On any regular day, admission to the Buffalo Museum of Science is just $11 each or $9 for military or students.
Experience Winter Wonderland
Cost: $10- $15
Canalside is the perfect spot for a winter wonderland date. There’s ice skating, ice biking, and curling – the choice is yours! However you choose to navigate the ice, you and your date are in for a fun time. And if you work up an appetite, there are plenty of restaurants nearby and usually a few food trucks to grab a bite. You can also pack a lunch and a thermos of your favorite hot beverage. Put thought into what you make for lunch and think of what your date would really appreciate; it’s the little things that often make the biggest difference.
Get Your Fitness On
$15 or less
Break a sweat on your date. Exercise-induced endorphins make for a happy date, and you’ll get an extra workout in for the week. There’s lots of local studios to choose from, here’s three on our radar to start your search – Grit House, Revolution Buffalo, and Rebel Ride. Commitment issues? No worries, you buy by the class at these studios. Added bonus, regular workouts improve mood, concentration, and also lower your risk of a ton of medical issues.
Remember, some of the best experiences in life are freeeeeeee. The quality of the date will more likely depend on your thoughtfulness and your attention to your date vs. the amount you spend, just sayin’. Have fun while trying to stay on a budget and save; it can even become a game after a while. For more tips and finance insights, check out Thoughtful Plan’s Blog.
