We’ve been “reviewing” (for lack of a better term) restaurants/food trucks/cafes/bars/breweries for about a year and a half now and we’re loving every minute. After rehashing our favorite dishes of the year and naming what we think is the crème de la crème of new restaurants in 2014, we thought we’d round up some of your favorites too. Here are some of the most popular restaurant posts we’ve written this year according to you, our readers.
Just in time for Bills season we find The Press Box. No, not the one at the top of the stadium with the irritating guys who point out, or sometimes miss, the obvious. This Press Box is just a mile or two down the road from the Ralph on Abbott, and it is anything but obvious. Bring your football fever and your big-boy appetite to this place – the food is full flavor and there is plenty of it.
A tribute to the steel industry, the Black Iron Bystro is a creative, funky little joint on South Park in Blasdell. In my mind if you like the art of food, not how it looks but the artistry and creativity of combinations and cooking, you’re gonna like this place.

Valle has quite the selection of un-Americanized dishes and preparation styles that this area has been lacking. I’m not sure how it’s possible that we have yet to see a strong enough market for a truly authentic Mexican menu around here. It’s not that I don’t enjoy Americanized versions, but I definitely plan to frequent this place for the genuine cuisine – especially the inexpensive, simple tacos.
The current trend in American dining is go casual but bring the big flavor. It seems that America’s appetite for haute cuisine has grown, not so much for stuffy, formal dining. Cue Bourbon and Butter, the latest redo of Mike A’s @ Lafayette.
Melting point is the temperature at which a given solid will melt. The given solid at Allentown’s Melting Point is thick, rich, beautiful cheese. Somehow cheese just tastes better when melted. The tiny shop on Allen Street opened this past Saturday, March 1, 2014 with big plans to serve one menu item, several different ways. That super important piece to the puzzle is the grilled cheese sandwich.
