Farm dinner season is upon us. If you haven’t been you really must. What can one say about enjoying well prepared food sourced within feet of where you are eating. Sometimes outdoors, under the stars with people just like you, who want the ultimate farm to table experience.
Sure, it’s probably a mental thing, but the food really does taste fresher, the wine fuller, the air more crisp and the people…well happier.
A few things you need to keep in mind.
- Food preparation is a little different on the farm versus in a restaurant so the timing of things might be a little different- relax and enjoy.
- This is a farm so if you have allergies be prepared. Bring tissues and take your meds.
- You might want to bring bug spray, sun screen, sun glasses and a sweater.
Becker Farms and Vizcarra Vineyards 100 Mile Radius Meals

This five course meal offers farm to table dishes paired with wines and beer produced on site. All food is made from their farm’s harvest or produced within 100 miles. Diners are served on the patio.
Soup – Spicy roasted vegetable soup
Salad – Summer squash ribbons with red onion and parm over a bed of mixed greens
Appetizers – Beet, cheddar and apple tartlets
Entree – Lake Erie perch served with grilled beet, cucumber and tomato with dill yogurt sauce served over a bed of couscous
Dessert – Strawberry Surprise.
Aroma Group Farm Dinner Series
The Aroma Farm Dinner Series is returning in 2014 with three events at Oles Farm in Alden, and one trip to Eveningside Vineyards in Niagara Wine Country USA. The Oles Farm dinners are scheduled for August 17th, September 27th and October 11th and include dinner, vegetable harvests, and farm tour.
The Niagara Wine Country experience is scheduled for September 13th and offers a unique day of wine touring, cellar visits, wine tasting, and local food.
Transportation for the event will leave from both Aroma locations (Buffalo and Williamsville) at 2 p. m. with drop-off back at Aroma by 9 p.m. for the Saturday dates. On Sunday August 17th pick-up time will be at 1 p.m. and drop-off by 8 p.m.
All dinners include transportation, wines (local and imports), local craft beer, a multi-course dinner, live music, tax, gratuity, and a few extras. Space for each dinner is limited. Check here for tickets ($145 per person) or for more information check their website.
Outstanding in the Field
If you don’t mind getting on the road for a few hours Outstanding in the Field Productions travels the country from spring to fall coordinating “roving culinary adventures”. They get local chefs and farmers together, and put on a dinner that is literally one long table in the field, beach, barn – under cover maybe, if absolutely necessary. Their mission is “to re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it.”
The closest they will be to Buffalo this year (they were in St. Catherines last year) will be near Cleveland Aug. 15, and north of Pittsburgh Aug. 19. Approximately $200 per person.
