Bad weather in Western New York tends to keep us indoors, but that just means we make the most of every time we step out.

Thankfully, there are a lot of great reasons to head out the door in November, including some great musical acts coming to local stages. Let’s dig in and see who’s coming to town this month.

(Some of these shows may be sold out, but obviously you can still find tickets on StubHub, Craigslist, LinkedIn, MySpace, Friendster, Allrecipes, Friend Proxy, etc. Don’t @ us.)

1) They Might Be Giants

DATE: November 3rd

LOCATION: Town Ballroom

ATTENTION LOCAL MOMS AND DADS OF A CERTAIN AGE: Your favorite throwback band turned kids’ musical act is coming to town! TMBG had massive hits in the 90s with “Birdhouse in Your Soul” and “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)”. More recently, they played Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme song and were Tony-nominated for their work on SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical.

Super-talented and fun, you really shouldn’t miss this band, not matter who you are.

2) Ty Segall (solo acoustic)

DATE: November 4th

LOCATION: Buffalo Iron Works

Super-talented and fun in a different way, Ty Segall is on a one-man mission to bring rock-n-roll back from the dead. He’s one of the biggest acts in underground rock right now, if you didn’t know, and you should expect this to be a proper happening. Come out to catch the buzz.

3) White Mystery, Soul Butchers, Stock

DATE: November 4th

LOCATION: Duke’s Bohemian Grove Bar

Chicagoans White Mystery are basically the White Stripes if Jack and Meg White reversed genders, never got popular and played music that sounds like a freight train going 100 miles per hour. So, pretty much the same thing as the White Stripes.

Local act Soul Butchers play fun, high-energy garage-punk.

4) The Joy Formidable

DATE: November 8th

Approved by Alternative Buffalo, The Joy Formidable have been turning heads for years and even earned a shout out from Dave Grohl for their smart, catchy tunes. This show is also at the brand spanking new Rec Room, and you know that means solid Instagram material.

5) Cursive

DATE: November 10th

LOCATION: Tralf Music Hall

Cursive is probably the one band that comes to mind when you say the word “emo”. If you had a passing emo phase or you’re emo-4-lyfe, this is a can’t miss. Go to the show and then blog about it later on LiveJournal.

7) Mac Sabbath

DATE: November 16th

LOCATION: Tralf Music Hall

A fast-food themed Black Sabbath parody band featuring Ronald Osbourne (vocals), Slayer McCheese (guitar), Grimalice (bass) and Catburglar (drums)? Yes please.

8) Death From Above

DATE: November 25th

LOCATION: The Rapids Theatre

Usually when people from Toronto come to town, it’s to leave their old clothes in the Galleria parking lot or a pool of vomit on Allen Street. While Death from Above might also leave those things behind, the band is a sure bet to put on a killer live rock/roll show.
