September Food & Drink Happenings
Our mission: Construct a monthly list of new openings- restaurants, food trucks, cafes, pubs and breweries, etc. from the previous month. Instead of undertaking the nearly impossible task of predicting which restaurants will actually open in the upcoming month, we decided this strategy would be more valuable for everyone involved. With bureaucrats, bankers and bean counters, unpredictable weather and contractors involved, it’s hard to say when a restaurant is opening until it is already in fact open.
Disclaimer: We recommend you call ahead to be sure you’ll find an open restaurant upon your arrival. Good Luck! Drop us a line at [email protected] if we missed any September openings/closings.

Neighborhood: University Heights, North Buffalo
A recently opened ramen spin off of the one and a half year old Japanese restaurant on Elmwood, SATO. Satomi and Joshua Smith have done a fabulous job of creating a casual, approachable noodle bar with delicious food – and at a blue collarish price point. We dig it.
Lockhouse Distillery & Bar
Neighborhood: Cobblestone District, Downtown
41 Columbia St, Buffalo, NY 14204
Lockhouse Distillery recently moved to a new location in order to make room for continued growth. The new space in the Cobblestone District allowed them to open a fully stocked bar – uniquely stocked with New York State only spirits, beer, wine and cider.
Neighborhood: West Seneca, Southtowns
936 Union Road, West Seneca, NY 14224 / 716-771-1740
Sure, their “official” opening wasn’t until October 1, but Paula’s 3rd location started with a soft opening in September, and we feel like that counts. Stop by this local WNY favorite donut shop – now in the Southtowns – for a fresh, hand cut sweet treat. Their Southgate hours are Sunday 5am- 5pm and Mon.- Sat. 5am- 9pm.
Ted’s Food Truck
The newest food truck to hit the streets is one that’s been serving delicious street food for years, just not exactly from a food truck – Ted’s Hot Dogs. Expect the dogs, burgers, sausages, and fries you know and love. Check out their website or follow #tedstruck on Twitter to find out where the they’ll be!
Elite Fine Dining
Neighborhood: Williamsville, Northtowns301 Cleveland Dr, Buffalo, NY 14215 / (716) 831-8181
According to their website, Elite Fine Dining is now offering “everything from early bird dinners to late night dining”. Specials at this new fine dining restaurant (previously Friar’s Table) include a 12-ounce cold water western Australian lobster tail and their famous (from back in the day, I assume) pan seared jumbo day boat scallops.

153 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, NY 14201
After some seriously spotty hours, a disappearing act involving their food menu and rumors of changes, Black Swan Lounge recently decided to close the doors for good. According to the news, owners Monique Fortunato-Lester and Bryan Leste are hoping to sell.
Neighborhood: Business District, Downtown
51 W Chippewa St, Buffalo, NY 14202
City Tavern, on the corner of Chippewa and Franklin officially closed their doors mid-September.
Neighborhood: Hertel, North Buffalo
As of the last day of September, Nortel Grille on Hertel has officially closed after a brief four months back open.
