Ru’s award-winning Roasted Red Pepper and Crab pierogi

And the winner is…

The damp Buffalo weather didn’t keep any Sunday Funday-ers away from the first ever Buffalo Pierogi Fest on May 21, 2017 at the Buffalo Outer Harbor! Attendees eagerly tried ten of local Western New York restaurants’ perfectly crafted dough pockets before submitting their votes for the three coveted awards.

Ru’s Pierogi took the crown for not one, but two awards including the most coveted “Buffalo’s Best Pierogi” and “Most Creative Pierogi” with their popular roasted red pepper and crab concoction. Winning the crown of “Most Traditional Pierogi” was the classic farmer cheese stuffed pierogi from Keeping Traditions.

Other pierogi masters who participated in the competition – and also brought their A-game were: Chrusciki Bakery, Home Cooked Buffalo, K Sisters Authentic Pierogi, The Mess Hall, Ms. Judi’s Food Truck, North Star Tavern, Potts Deli & Grille, and Stella’s Old Fashioned Pierogi.

These delicious pierogi weren’t the only stars of the afternoon, attendees were also entertained by live music by Kickstart Rumble and fun classes and activities from Studio Hue Craft Parties and the Buffalo Museum of Science. Despite the wet weather, attendees also partook in presenting sponsor Compeer’s cornhole tournament, Quarter Deck Athletics’ mini-crossfit games competition, and of course enjoyed a puppy pen from the Buffalo Animal Shelter’s PAWS Truck. Local food truck favorites Get Fried Food Truck and Rolling Cannoli Food Truck were also at the Fest to provide additional munchies.
