Think of the best grilled cheese sandwich you’ve ever had. My guess is that it was in the comfort of your childhood home and sparked feelings of nostalgia, or in another city at a famed grilled cheese shop. The latter wouldn’t surprise me, as it seems that Buffalo isn’t as hyped on grilled cheese as other cities. Why? I can’t think of a single explanation.
On the same note, I am always baffled when I go to Buffalo Melting Point and there’s not a line out the door. Am I the only person that wakes up on a Wednesday afternoon and wants a gooey on the inside, crispy on the outside, buttery, creamy, savory, rich, divine, heavenly, gourmet grilled cheese? Now THAT I just wouldn’t believe for a second.
Regardless of whatever is causing this lackluster love of grilled cheese in our city, I am here to denote Buffalo Melting Point as my knight in grilled cheese shining armor, and I think it should be yours, too. I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying quite a few sandwiches at Melting Point, and my verdict is that there’s no wrong choice and no bad day for this Allentown staple.
Melting Point’s menu is comprised of ten gourmet grilled cheese concoctions including a customizable option and a classic American cheese and white bread option (which you can also get a six-pack of – no, seriously). In addition to the grilled cheese section, they have nine specialty sandwiches and three burgers on the menu, as well as daily specials sprinkled in here and there like their chicken biscuit sandwich on Tuesdays.

Because the majority of my visits to Melting Point have been due to an intense craving for grilled cheese, I haven’t explored much of their “other” section except for the chicken biscuit, but that sandwich alone told me all I’d ever need to know about their ability to create a sandwich in which every ingredient is well thought-out and made with love.
I’ll never forget my very first Melting Point grilled cheese experience. I was working around the corner and called in a to-go order for the No. 64: cheddar, monterey jack, ricotta, and house pickled jalapeños. Let me preface my critique by saying I am an absolute snob when it comes to ordering certain types of food to-go (basically anything that can get soggy in transportation is off my list), but on this particular day I needed comfort in the form of carbohydrates and melted cheese and I didn’t have time to eat-in.
Guys. This sandwich made my day, week, and month! Sweet, spicy, sharp, creamy, crunchy sourdough exterior even despite a bit of time wrapped up. I can’t think of a single thing that would’ve made it better, and from that moment on I knew that I’d frequent Melting Point. The No. 12 with aged farmhouse cheddar and apple-bacon jam also blew my mind on another occasion, as well as the classic served with their savory tomato basil soup.
All in all, the secret cannot be held any longer. I can’t say enough good things about the quality of food I’ve received at Melting Point, and the world (or at least Buffalo) needs to know!
