Let’s be honest, everything is better with a great bottle of wine. Is it the taste, aroma, the intermingling of flavors with your food or the endorphins pulsing through your body? I’m going with all of the above. Whatever it is the reality has been around since the discovery of the grape. Listed below are our picks for restaurants that have outstanding wine lists. Some more grand than others, but all offer great selections.
First rate from the front door to the dessert- simple, elegant and classy. The menu is undeniably Italian but the selection of steaks, seafood, chicken and pasta will entice any appetite.
The wine list offers outstanding selections from Italy, France, Spain, South America and the U.S.

Bacchus Wine Bar & Restaurant
Convenient to everything downtown on Chippewa near the theaters, this place gets a lot of attention for fine wine, but not enough for great food and interesting dishes. International cuisines, small sampler plates and a great selection of wines by the glass offers the perfect setting to bond with your significant other.
56 W Chippewa, Buffalo | (716) 854-9463
Italian food doesn’t come much better this side of Naples. An excellent selection of Italian wines, beers and great house-made pasta dishes. The setting is quietly stylish, and the service competently aloof. You can never go wrong with the pappardelle or risotto dishes, but there is so much more.

David’s offers a great bar crowd, a comfortable dining room, and a wine list that isn’t as large as some, but offers a lot of quality choices. If you like lamb, steaks and good salads this is a no brainer. Located in the center of Orchard Park it’s an easy ride from Rte. 20 or the 219. Parking in the back.

Perhaps a bit on the lively end of romance, but who said romantic has to be quiet and subdued. You can’t go wrong here with the wood fired pizzas, but the wood grilled chops would be more to my liking (check out the special sauces). The service is always good and the wine list hits a lot of high notes.
800 Maple Road, Williamsville | (716) 688-5800
The restaurant that launched a thousand chefs? Perhaps a slight exaggeration, but Oliver’s has been supplying Buffalo and the Niagara region with people that really know how to cook for decades. There is good reason this place has been thriving for so long, and it isn’t just about a great bar, piano music or the spinach bread -those help- the food is great, the service impeccable and the wine list extraordinaire. If your date doesn’t like it here I suggest you find a new date – fast.
2095 Delaware Ave, Buffalo | (716) 877-9662
Lombardo’s presents a unique balance between great food, elegant setting and comfortable dining. Maybe because they make it look easy -consistently outstanding, authentic Italian food, and usually a delectable special menu for the 14th. Bring on the sublime desserts, an espresso to finish, and you have yourself a winner.
