The Buffalo chapter or “pod” of 500 Women Scientists was formed in July 2019 and has grown into a network of women scientists and allies in support of the mission to make science open, inclusive, and accessible and transform society by fighting racism, patriarchy, and oppressive societal norms.
It is our mission to serve Buffalo and the surrounding communities by creating an inclusive and welcoming community of self-identifying scientists from all STEM disciplines who promote scientific literacy and work towards equity. To fulfill our mission, we are focused on the following strategic areas:
- Enhancing scientific mentorship and community
- Supporting and providing educational opportunities
- Identifying structural inequity and standing up to discrimination and bias
- Developing access for traditionally underrepresented groups
