History
The War of 1812 is not the most ostentatious of conflicts, yet one marvel was produced, which stood the test of time. Even the soldiers of yesteryear enjoyed knocking back a few drinks after a long day on the battlefield. One particularly ingenious and entrepreneurial bar owner saw this as an opportunity and began furnishing the fighting men with delicious drinks, which soon gained notoriety across the Great Lakes region. Catherine Hustler famously invented a “gin mixture” stirred and decorated with the tail feathers of chickens and other fowl. During one feast, a soldier ordered a “Glass of the Cocktail,” and from then on, the legend was born.
