Verve Dance Studio was founded in September 2005 by Shane Depree Fry, and is dedicated to the art of B-boying and Hip Hop culture. Our mission at Verve is to help develop confident and caring individuals who engage in their communities, and in positive self expression through the arts.
Through the elements of Hip Hop: B-boying, DJing, Emceeing and Graffiti, Verve Dance Studio teaches self expression, confidence and respect for diversity. Since 2005, it has been the premier place to experience B-boying (Break Dancing), and has transcended its dance roots to become a Buffalo cultural institution. Verve is a place where people from all walks of life come together, and if you come to the school you will find a positive energy and sense of community that is unparalleled in traditional dance or hip hop venues. Always family-friendly, Verve serves approximately 500-1,000 youth a month in the city of Buffalo and greater Buffalo Niagara region through classes, school systems, and community programs.
Verve Dance Studio is also the location for a number of art, music, dance and community awareness events. The most notable event held monthly at the school is Battle @ Buffalo, the city’s first all ages urban dance competition. Battle @ Buffalo is also the longest running monthly competition of its kind in the country, taking place the last Saturday of every month, since October 2006.
