A Word from Undergrounds Coffee House and Roastery
Bill Metzger has been brewing something for more years than he’s willing to admit. Starting with home brewed beer in his kitchen (moved to the basement to maintain the peace), to commercial brewing in the Old First Ward, Bill’s interest turned to coffee when he decided that his espresso machine made coffee as good as could be had in local businesses. He was dying to give it a try, secretly pouring over plans to start such a venture.
Along came Sara Heidinger, who had been waking the dead with her stunningly successful photography business of nine years. Before that, Sara spent many years raising hell and livening up local patrons in the restaurant business. For the past two years, Sara has helped to raise the Old First Ward from its post industrial dormancy, by shepherding its Community Center to new heights. During all this time Sara kept a skeleton in her closet: the yearning to open a coffee house.
Late one stormy evening, Sara ‘espressed’ a desire to open a coffee house in the Old First Ward. Bill then revealed his deeply buried secret: he, too, wanted to serve coffee commercially to residents of their community. As the idea ‘percolated’, Sara mentioned that she just happened to have a friend, Bridget Morris, who had 15 years of customer service in a variety of fields including retail, restaurant, bar and-most importantly-coffee. Bridget’s caffeine-fueled experiences seemed just the thing to ‘urn’ her the position as Chief ‘Undertaker’.
So when a local funeral home came up for sale, the trio leapt from their graves to buy the property and awaken plans to create a once in a lifetime experience …. every time! This is entirely possible, of course, when you’re as close to heaven’s gate as Undergrounds Coffee House $ Roastery intends to be.
