Butera’s in Hamburg is now open serving craft beer and craft pizza. The location was formerly August Bistro. The business was formerly Jimmy’s Pizza. Jimmy’s moved around the block and became Butera’s. Simple. Same owner, Jimmy Butera, new restaurant… I think. Ignore the sign in the back.
Butera’s is sporting a brand-spankin’ new brick oven fresh off the boat from Italy. They have standard and specialty thin crust pizzas. They are also boasting plenty of new menu items: soups, salads, wings, fingers, sandwiches, wraps, calzone, pasta dishes and good looking appetizers. See the full menu here. The dough and sauces are homemade daily, including the rolls for sandwiches. They also offered some tempting specials when we stopped – Chicken Milanese, Lobster Ravioli, Strip Steak – all at very reasonable prices.
Equally important is the beer list. Six taps offer a nice selection that includes local and regional beers. How about this to wet your thirst: Muskoka Twice as Mad Tom IPA, Big Ditch Hayburner, Founders Nitro Oatmeal Stout, Kuka Banana Nut Brown, Flying Bison Rusty Chain, Dog Fish Head 61?
A new look to the place includes the brick oven open to the bar space, sharp wood paneling behind the bar wall, and faux brick trim on the bar. Currently Jimmy is only seating in the bar room – tables have been added. A second large space that was the dining room for August Bistro is only used for private parties and special events.
On a recent visit we tried:
Butera’s Mozzarella – $7.99, Stuffed Banana Peppers – $7.99, Meat Ball Parm. Sandwich – $9.99, Onion & Sausage Calzone – $11.99; Chicken Finger Pizza “14 – $13.99, 8” Margherita pizza – $8.99.
The Chicken Finger pizza may have gotten away from the pizza cook just a bit but it was still great. No complaints in the bunch and everything with that special brick oven crust. Stop in and check them out.
