There’s nothing like a good ol’ hidden gem of a restaurant. These places have usually been around for a while and have that certain ambiance that let’s you know there’s some history in its walls. Often off the beaten path, hidden gem restaurants tend to offer hearty comfort foods, no crowds, and excellent service that only comes from years and years of experience.
That said, allow us to introduce you to Cabaret. Not only is Cabaret a hidden gem of a restaurant, it also boasts a killer patio, central location, and a can’t-be-beat happy hour – hellooooo 2-4-1’s!. Plus their food selection will not only impress you/your friends/your family/your date but it also won’t break the bank, the portion sizes will give you leftovers, and their Local Restaurant Week offerings are always one of the best around. Now *that’s* gem-worthy.
Cabaret restaurant is located in the heart of the Theater District downtown aka right across the street from the back entrance of Shea’s Performing Arts Center. Because of its proximity to Shea’s, Cabaret is pretty crowded whenever there’s a show or performance going on…which is why we like to visit Cabaret during the warmer months to take advantage of their beautifully remodeled patio. I mean, look at it. It’s also just a street over from Franklin St, around the corner from the newly poppin’ South Ellicott District, a few blocks from the Medical Campus, and less than a 3-minute walk from the free metro on Main Street that can take you all the way down to Canalside…for free. It couldn’t be easier to get to Cabaret or include it in your day/night out, and chances are that once you’re there you won’t want to leave.
On the food menu you can expect to see lots of Italian-based dishes, classic American fare, and sandwiches named after famous Broadway shows and stars (see their lunch and dinner menus here). The bar offers a decent array of beer options both in bottles and on draft, wines by the glass and by the bottle, and a martini list featuring drinks that are, of course, named after more famed Broadway shows and stars. Pro-tip: Happy Hour is from 4-7, and we recommend enjoying your happy hour libations on the aforementioned glorious patio because patio drinks are the happiest of drinks. And of course before, during, or after your libations definitely get something to eat…because duh.
Cabaret also offers on-site catering for private parties. To learn more about their catering menu click here or call them at (716) 842-4181.
