One thing we know: ya’ll go absolutely nuts for a u-pick flower farm. So we figured we had to tell you that these 4 WNY u-pick flower farms are about to open for the season.
If you thought these spots were popular last year, add a little Covid quarantine and the need for social distancing into the mix and these places are going to be *the* thing to do this summer. Trust us.
1. Kin Loch Farmstead
Type: U-pick Lavender Farm
This adorable lavender farm (and wedding venue) opened for u-pick last summer and was bombarded with lavender pickers immediately, sold out way sooner than they thought they would, and basically totally killed it their first season in business. Apparently Western New Yorkers love lavender and oh BTW they want to pick it themselves. Who knew!
Kin Loch is located along the Niagara Wine Trail in Cambria, New York, about 30 minutes from Buffalo on a 30 acre property with 2,000 plants of English and French lavender and an organic flower garden.
These guys are back this summer and ready for the lavender loving masses, with a new ticketing system to help enhance their customer experience and maintain social distancing. Tickets for the first 3 u-pick dates are already sold out, but more will be added soon for future dates and possibly even those first few dates – you can sign up here to hear when tickets are available.
Tickets are $13 and include 2 hours at the farm and 1 free bundle of u-pick lavender, with additional bundles of u-pick lavender available for $5.
Did we mention they have a shop that offers lavender and honey based products and offer classes? Visit kinlochfarmstead.com for more info.
2. The Flower Stand
Type: U-pick Flower Farm
This hidden gem (well, not so hidden anymore) in Springville, NY is as delightful as it sounds. People visit from across Western New York to pick their own beautiful bouquet and leave charmed by owner Ellen and her flower farm. Like Kin Loch, during the 2020 season The Flower Stand will offer ticketed/appointment-style visits only in order to maintain proper social distancing from July to roughly October.
Time slots are currently sold out through July 19, however The Flower Stand will continue to add appointments and encourages followers to check back frequently for new available slots.
While bloom times are highly dependent on things like – you know… sun, rain, and weather – at the peak, The Farm Stand can offer over 100 varieties of annual & perennial flowers.
3. Henry’s Gardens U-pick
Type: Self-serve Cutting Garden
Did you know this well-known Eden Greenhouse has a cutting garden? Open daily from dawn to dusk – tentatively starting, Henry’s offers an option to cut your own flowers at their field just down the road from their shop. The field features vibrant annual flowers like zinnias, statice and mixed fillers to create your own bouquets. Plus, this summer they added Lavender to the mix. Water, buckets, and clippers are available. Friendly reminder to bring change!
4. Sunflowers of Sanborn
Over the past few years Sunflowers of Sanborn has transformed into much more than just a sunflower field, with plans for 2020 including a u-pick field, craft show, concessions, and sunflower sifter. Of course, sunflower season doesn’t start until mid August, so you have some time before this needs to be on your radar, once those big beautiful flowers are here, don’t wait.
The u-pick sunflower field is home to over 100,000 sunflowers and six different varieties. Sunflowers are $1 each and $5 for a dwarf sunflower.
5. Hen-Hawk Acres
Create a bouquet with fresh picked flowers at Hen-Hawk Acres. The u-pick field contains a variety of flowers to choose from. Customers can fill a 6 qt. bucket to create either one large bouquet or a few smaller ones. Most flowers are $0.50, sunflowers are $2 each, and globe thistles are $1 each.
6. Kelkenberg Farm

This sunflower field in the Southtowns offers u-cut or pre-cut sunflowers at $1 per flower. They also allow photos to be taken for free and accept donations in order to maintain the field in the future.
