Chocolate Bar Does Dessert Best

Chocolate Bar is reknowned for its variety of martinis- Banana Cream Pie, Jolly Rancher and White Chocolate Raspberry to name a few. Over the years they’ve expanded into a full-on restaurant, still with an extensive drink menu. While I have been to Chocolate Bar before for the dessert martinis, this visit was food focused.

A simple $20.13 Restaurant Week menu stood alone with appetizer, entrée and dessert options.

For starters we enjoyed French Onion Soup & a Thai Shrimp Salad. Both were tasty. The Thai sauce on the salad was nice with a nutty flavor – a non-traditional salad dressing. If I were to return I would probably opt for the chicken wing chowder. Caesar salad was also an option.

The entrées all sounded equally appealing. We decided on Mahi Mahi with Bacon Blue Cheese Beurre Blanc served with mashed potatoes and corn medley. The fish was flavorful and the dressing was truly unique. I highly recommend this if you visit for Restaurant Week. We also sampled the Penne A La Vodka with spinach and roasted red peppers. The portion was large and the red peppers were a nice touch.

Other entrée options included Filet Mignon with roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus and Pork Tenderloin with apple chutney, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts.

Dessert, not surprisingly, was the best course of the evening. We tasted the Créme Brulee (torched right at the table) and the Dessert of the Day – a chocolate sponge cake. Both were delicious and presented with chocolate and whipped cream accents. I saw several Dip your own Berries & Belgian Chocolate Mousse Cake’s fly by our table. These appeared to be a big hit as well.

The atmosphere was somewhat chaotic last night, which leads me to wonder about the nature of the service on a Friday or Saturday evening. While the food was good, the service lacked attentiveness and charm. To be fair, I did observe other servers indulge in the opportunity to welcome guests and promote Restaurant Week – just not ours.

If you’re in the market for a unique martini or a decadent dessert, try Chocolate Bar this week.
