In the spirit of trying new things, we’ve rounded up a wide variety of dance classes with a side of fencing to keep it interesting. The trick is to keep an open mind as you make your way through the list. These classes are an excellent opportunity to learn something new, create memories and/or let loose a little!

 

Fred Astaire Dance Classes

Hit the dance floor at Fred Astaire’s and allow their highly trained dance instructors to guide you through a three tiered method of learning the art of dance.  With private instruction, group lessons or practice lessons you will focus on balance and the mechanics of dance.  Fred Astaire offers classes in Salsa, Mambo, Hustle, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Merengue, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Samba, Bolero, Paso Doble, Jive, Argentine Tango, Foxtrot, Tango, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, and Quickstep!  Call the studio at(716) 633-1866 to find out their current introductory offer!

Travis Widrick Tango Lessons

Asker’s occasionally offers free dance classes at their Elmwood Village location.  If you decide this is something you’d like to try again, sign up for the next session of tango classes by Travis Widrick for “complete beginners”.  Classes are usually once a week for 6 weeks at Ashker’s from 7-8:30pm for $90 or $45 with a student ID.

Swing Buffalo

Become a part of the growing dance community by taking swing dancing lessons. Admission is very reasonable at around $4 when there is a DJ and $10 if there is a live band for beginner lessons where they’ll teach you what you need to open up during the free dance later in the night.  Class prices differ, so check out the time, location and details at swingbuffalo.com.

The Bellydance Academy

Learn belly dancing basics with Beginner, Basics, Levels 1-2, Drilling & Belly-Fit. Classes are 1 hour in length and are available in 8-week sessions that turn combinations into choreography. The cost of the classes are $15 for a single drop-in class, $75 per 8 week session (discounted $8.75 a class), Quarterly Choreography Sessions $120 (or pay $40 per month or $95 if paid in full the first week of each quarter).  Your hard work will pay off with the performance opportunities!  Some classes have specific dress codes for class, so be sure to check out details online or give them a call.

Nadia Ibrahim Middle Eastern Dance Company

For just $10 for a one hour class, Nadia Ibrahim Middle Eastern Dance Company will teach you the fundamentals of belly dancing.  Learn a range of Middle Eastern dances at the Nadia Ibrahim Middle Eastern Dance Company workshops and get the opportunity to perform at local festivals, parties, night clubs and more.

Pole Play Dance Studio

These classes generally run for about 8 weeks for $160.  With classes for beginners, intermediates, and the advanced, along with boot camp, cardio go-go dancing, chair dancing, burlesque, hula-hoop, booty pop, and lap dancing, there are endless ways to embrace your sexy side and get a work out in. If you’re looking for more of a one time thing, check out the different workshops and one-time teaser classes Pole Play offers each month. The cost is $25 per Workshop and themes vary from month to month.

Les Amis Fencing Club

En guard! Try this 8 week set of beginner fencing classes for just $60 and learn the sport of classical fencing from the oldest fencing club in Buffalo. If you enjoy it, Les Amis Fencing Club offers intermediate classes for $65.  As you continue to advance in fencing, you may become comfortable with open fencing, which costs $35 monthly or $12 weekly.  To register, email information@lesamisfencing.com or “just show up”.
