Dapper Goose Brunch is Blissful & One of the Best in WNY

There are only a few spots in Buffalo that can transport you to another place when considering the quality of the food and beverage program and the overall atmosphere. Dapper Goose is one of those spots in Buffalo. Nestled in the heart of Black Rock on Amherst Street, a quiet, sunny afternoon brunch can take you to Southern California, or a late-night dinner at the bar with one too many cocktails can take you to your most recent Toronto outing.

I’ve been frequenting Dapper Goose since they opened in Fall 2016, and they’re on my “rotation list,” or my list of ~10 restaurants (and growing!) that I would rotate each Sunday if I ever quit doing @buffalobrunch and could live like the rest of the population – just visiting my favorite places for brunch each Sunday. *evil laugh*

Our most recent Sunday visit to Dapper Goose can really only be described with one word: blissful. The weather couldn’t have been better and being on the sun-kissed patio surrounded by greenery almost felt surreal after the humidity and precipitation we’ve been experiencing directly following a hellish winter.

I started the afternoon with “my many colored days” cocktail (below) containing calvados, beet, mezcal, genepy and egg white. I have to say – it’s been a while since A. I’ve ordered a cocktail and B. I haven’t immediately regretted ordering a cocktail upon first sip. I don’t mean to sound pretentious, but it’s pretty rare that I’m impressed with a cocktail in our little city. There are about three places I’ll stick to for original cocktails, and Dapper is one of them.

This cocktail was everything I wanted it to be – creamy, earthy, floral, and sweet – without being too much of any of those things. That’s not an easy accomplishment, and so often the balance of a cocktail is ruined by just one ingredient. To elaborate on the drink menu, you’re not going wrong with any choice. The beer and wine lists, the bloody (below), their famous “Broken Garden Tools” cocktail (below) – save this brunch for a day when you’re ready to kick back and have a few. Maybe go wild and have a shot with the bartenders. Uber. This is where you’ll drink reeeal good, baby.

As for the food at Dapper – I think I’ve had every single brunch menu item at this point, even if we’re talking seasonal, so perhaps we should do a little Q&A? Haha. Let’s start with the basics. The hash browns are perfection – crispy on the outside, pillowy and creamy on the inside. The Dapper Breakfast seems boring, but how long has it been since you’ve had superb scrambled eggs AND a housemade sausage that doesn’t stick with you all day? You know what I’m talking about – when you burp and taste your breakfast hours later. It’s not cool and it almost always means the meat was poor quality. *Think store-bought hot dogs…*

The crab toast (above) was light, refreshing, and herbaceous – the kind of dish that makes you stop and focus on eating it more slowly so you can really savor every bite. If you’re looking to indulge at Dapper, you must go with the spicy chicken sandwich (below), breakfast burger (below), or biscuits and ham. These are your hangover options, and if you and your crew are anything like mine, this will include a bread basket (below) and cheese plate to start so you can ensure that you’re soaking up all the loose ends of the previous night. The challah french toast with rotating spreads will get your sweet tooth out of bed.

Last but not least, it’s no secret that I have trouble not ordering the “Dipping Eggs 2.0” (below) on each and every brunch visit to Dapper. If you like spice and tomatoes, take my word for it. If you also like dipping crunchy toast into a runny yolk and ricotta cheese, this is a dish made for you. #trust
