December Restaurant Openings to Check Out

City Guide, Food & Drink

Our mission: Construct a monthly list of new openings- restaurants, food trucks, cafes, pubs and breweries, etc. from the previous month.Instead of undertaking the nearly impossible task of predicting which restaurants will actually open in the upcoming month, we decided this strategy would be more valuable for everyone involved. With bureaucrats, bankers and bean counters, unpredictable weather and contractors involved, it’s hard to say when a restaurant is opening until it is already, in fact open.

Disclaimer: We recommend you call ahead to be sure you’ll find an open restaurant upon your arrival. Good Luck! Drop us a line at if we missed any December openings/closings.

Five Points Bakery and Toast Cafe

Five Points Bakery & Toast Cafe

Neighborhood: West Side

44 Brayton Street, Buffalo, New York | (716) 884-8888

This darling (yea, I said darling), shiny new version of Five Points fits right in with all the new things popping up on the west side while maintaining a modest atmosphere. The more time you have to kill the better, because wanting to grab and go just isn’t going to happen.

Marco’s Italian Deli has expanded their operation to include Downtown Buffalo on the corner of Oak and Genesee across from the recently opened Dog é Style. The new deli is complete with a mobster wall, “sangwich” specials and friendly staff!

Saigon Cafe

Saigon Cafe

Neighborhood: Elmwood Village

520 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, New York | (716) 883-1252

The spiffy new Saigon Cafe opened this month after closing up shop and making moves down the avenue. The space is nice but a recent visit implores me to caution you: Eat at your own risk.

Street Cafe

Neighborhood: Parkside

285 Parkside Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14214

We’re not sure exactly what month this Middle Eastern restaurant opened shop, but in the interest of keeping you informed, we’re adding it here.  According to Andrew Glarneau at The Buffalo News, Street Cafe is serving NY style gyro a “griddle-seared meat on a bed of rice pilaf and salad topped with a pungent pesto of cilantro, mint, chile and garlic, plus yogurt sauce” for $7.99, drink included.  Count us in.

Armor Inn Tap Room Ellicottville

Located across the street from Wingate Hotel in the Village of Ellicottville, the second Armor Inn Tap Room to open in WNY is a casual, family friendly restaurant and bar serving breakfast lunch and dinner. They have a brew made especially for them by EBC called the Armor Inn Pale Ale, live music often and a big old fireplace.
