From themed programs and outdoor events to reading challenges, book recommendations, games, crafts, and more, you’ll find everything you need to enrich your child’s summer with months of learning that’s actually fun!

Online Summer Reading Challenges for Children, Teens & Adults

Bet you thought summer reading was only for children! Teens, adults, summer camps can all participate in the summer fun @ the Library. It’s easy, fun and it’s all free!

And, you can win fantastic prizes like a Kindle Fire HD, Nintendo Switch, LEGO building set, and more just by reading a book and writing a short review.  Learn more.

STEM-Themed Maker Camp

Calling all young tinkerers and makers! Every Wednesday through August 17, you’re invited to go on an ocean-themed STEM exploration journey at the downtown Central Library from 2 to 3 p.m.

Youth Sports Equipment Kit Lending

Did you know libraries offer more than just books? In fact, kid-sized soccer, lacrosse, badminton, tennis, and basketball kits are available throughout the summer season at select libraries.

Even better, borrowing a sports kit erases any outstanding charges from a child’s library account. See participating libraries and get outside this summer!

Battle of the Books: A Virtual Teen Reading Competition

Back for another year, this exciting teen trivia and reading competition is always a hit. The competition is open to students entering grades 6 through 9, and library team battles will take place virtually from July 27 through August 2. 

All you have to do is join a team, read preselected books, and answer trivia questions for your library team! Head to the Library System website for full rules and more information.

Dive into Summer Reading at Your Local Library

With so much variety, there is sure to be something interesting to read, learn or participate in at any of the 37 Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries this summer. Libraries are for everyone and there is truly something for everyone!
