“To have persons from the sports world … reaching out and being empathetic and you know showing their humanity is a big deal. It’s very moving, It’s unselfish of them, it’s loving, it’s caring.” – Garnell Whitfield
In a recent article from ESPN, the Buffalo Bills are making headlines but this time it is not for their plays on the field, but rather for the comfort they’ve been able to provide to the WNY community during difficult times. Over the past year, Buffalo has seen more devastation than a city should endure. From the May 14th shooting at Tops, to the November and December blizzards, 2022 has taken a major toll on our region. And while these tragedies were highlighted in the news, what people outside of WNY don’t always get to see is just how strong of a relationship the Bills players have with our community. Luckily, ESPN has picked up on this special relationship and is sharing this story.

The article goes into mentioning how in the days after the shooting, the Bills were at the scene offering their respects, volunteering in the food drives, and raising funds for the victims’ families through the “Choose Love” t-shirt campaign created alongside the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bandits. During the November winter storm, Bills Mafia in turn was there to show their support for the Bills by helping to dig players out of their driveways to get them on their flight to Detroit for their game.
With the more current events surrounding Damar Hamlin, we’ve come together again. It’s been a two way street between the Bills and Bills Mafia and nothing can break this relationship.
It’s honestly heartwarming to see ESPN choose to cover the Bills and our city in this way. While this is just a brief look into our tight knit community, we encourage you to read the entire article below to fully appreciate the #Buffalove.
