“Artist Night” provides something for the artist in everyone. The first and third Thursdays of the month, Art’s Cafe will be open for art-making of all types. Guest speakers, specialty studios, impromptu sketch sessions and more. Bring your unfinished art projects and get the inspiration you need. For a modest lab fee students can enjoy the supplies and tools available in the workshop to create artwork at Specialty Studios.



10/6: Max Collins

Max Collins is an acclaimed photographer and wheatpaste artist best known for creating artworks and installations by adhering images onto various materials and objects. Max has artwork in the permanent collection at The Burchfield-Penney Art Center, and his work has been showcased in solo shows at the Castellani Art Museum, WNY Books Art Center, and BAM Gallery. Max was recently invited to participate in a public art residency with The Albright Knox Art Gallery that took place in the summer of 2021 where he created a body of work and a public mural exploring the history of the removal of Humboldt Parkway in Buffalo, New York. In this presentation, the artist will discuss his recent work and projects over the last several years with hopes to get feedback and critique from the local artist community.

10/20: Alexis Mele

Alexis Mele is a craftsman at Visual Impact Signs in East Aurora, NY. She works with a wide variety of materials, from design to installation, to create eye-catching custom signage that can be found all over Western New York and beyond. Her sign work includes many unique pieces including sculptures, 3D carved signs and vehicle wraps.

Glass Studio: Tools and supplies to work with both stained glass and mosaic will be available. Previous glass experience required.


11/3: Sudi Wang

Sudi Wang is a printmaker and book artist. Wang was born in Kunming, China, and now lives in Buffalo NY. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Visual Art at SUNY Fredonia in 2021. Currently, Sudi is a resident artist at Western New York Book Art Center as a part-time printmaking artist.  Her artwork focuses on monster creations influenced by different cultures, religions, and traditions that she grew up with and around. Her work also includes suminagashi, book art, and zine publications.

Glass Studio: Tools and supplies to work with both stained glass and mosaic will be available. Previous glass experience required.


11/17: Sarah Myers

Drawing and painting for eighteen years, artist Sarah Myers has taken her creativity across the artistic spectrum from figurative to abstract art. Over the years these explorations have intertwined into a style all her own.

Sculpture Studio: Live model and a variety of clay will be available for all sculptors.


12/15: Chris Fritton

Chris Fritton aka “The Itinerant Printer” is a poet, printer, and fine artist with over two decades of experience writing, printing, and making his own books, in addition to collaborative efforts with other authors and artists. He is the former Studio Director of the Western New York Book Arts Center in Buffalo, NY, and has been a panelist to judge the New York Foundation on the Arts Fellowship in Drawing, Printmaking, and Book Arts (2014). He co-founded the highly-acclaimed Buffalo Small Press Book Fair with Kevin Thurston in 2007, and organized the fair solo from 2009-2016. Currently, Fritton is working on a long-term project called The Itinerant Printer, where he’s visited almost 200 letterpress print shops throughout North America in six years, covering over 75,000 miles and making over 30,000 prints on the road. He recently culminated the journey in an over-sized coffee table book featuring all the places, prints, and people from along the way.
