In this beginner jewelry class, students will learn about types of wire, wire tools, and basic jewelry construction skills (hardening wire, making proper loops, matched components, wire manipulation, basic starter weaving, tension, consistency, and detail). Each person will create a pair of earrings, a bracelet, and a pendant. Far more importantly though, students will leave with an understanding of basic jewelry concepts that can be built on to make not only the pieces from this class, but also new pieces as their creativity dictates.PLEASE NOTE: This class will be required before moving on to more advanced wire jewelry workshops.

All materials and tools needed for the workshop are provided. The tools will remain the property of the instructor. The tool set (cutters, 5 styles of pliers, chasing hammer, bench block, polish cloth, 1 file and 1 buffer) will be available for students if they are interested in purchasing at an additional $95. Students are highly recommended to bring magnification (reading) glasses. Lunch will not be supplied. Please feel free to bring a bagged lunch or something to snack on.

After a background in Graphic Art, Stacy Smith experimented with a variety of media before settling on wire wrapped jewelry. In 2017 she was juried into the Arts and Craftsmen Guild on the Roycroft Campus and has since been a member of their steering committee. She has won several awards through the years, most recently Best in Show at the American Craftsmen Artisan Festival (Kenan Center) 2022, and Best in Jewelry 2022 Letchworth Festival of the Arts. She has taught both public and private classes and has written several tutorials.
