Buffalo Stories 2023 will feature guest of honor, Maryann Saccomando Freedman, the first woman attorney to serve as President of the Bar Association of Erie County (1981-1982) and the New York State Bar Association (1987-1988).

Freedman was a true trailblazer. When she graduated from law school in 1958, she was one of only three women in a class of 100.

Dedicated to her community, Freedman was a founding member and President of Women Lawyers’ Association of Western New York, President of Erie County’s Aid to Indigent Prisoner’s Society (Assigned Counsel), Zonta, Buffalo Geological Association, Western New York Heritage Magazine and the Committee to Form a Buffalo Presidential Center. For a decade, she sat on the Governor’s State-Wide Judicial Screening Committee. She served on the boards of Legal Services for the Elderly, Erie County Bar Foundation, was a delegate for 15 years to the American Bar Association, and led task forces for the United Way Delivery of Legal Service to the Poor, Erie County’s on Rape and Sexual Assault and the YMCA’s on Affirmative Action, among a host of others. She has been awarded honors including the Women Lawyers’ “Lawyer of the Century”, UB’s “Distinguished Alumni”, Buffalo Historical Society’s “Red Jacket”, Interclub Counsel’s “Susan B. Anthony” and was named one of ten “Women Trailblazers” by the NYS Bar Association, to name a few.

Tickets: $250 per ticket.

The evening will include:

  • pre-show reception at 7:00 p.m. (cocktails and hors d’oeuvres)

  • 8:00 p.m. performance

  • post-show reception

The event celebrates the life of a local Buffalo icon by presenting a one-night only musical written about the guest of honor’s life. Past honorees include former Mayor Anthony Masiello, NFL Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas, Restauranteur Russell Salvatore and Vice-President of the M&T Bank Charitable Foundation, Shelley Drake.

Funds from the event will benefit Road Less Traveled Productions.
