WNY Book Arts Center (Book Arts) is excited to announce Caffeinated Injustices, an exhibition of paintings and sculptural work by Bianca L. McGraw. In 2022, McGraw initiated a series of paintings utilizing coffee as a medium as a way to process the May 14 mass shooting that occurred at the Tops supermarket on Buffalo’s East Side. McGraw paints at events, restaurants and bars as a way to channel the healing vibes of the city and create a thoughtful space for dialogue with those who choose to interact with her. As she notes. “Art continues to be my bandaid.” In addition to McGraw’s coffee paintings, Caffeinated Injustices will also feature a sculptural installation inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and created entirely from LEGO blocks.

This show is made possible by the New York State Council of the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the  New York State Legislature.

Bianca L. McGraw (pronounced Bianca L Period McGraw) is an international practicing multimedia installation performance artist, poet, educator, higher education advocate, community development and engagement facilitator, and diversity presenter. She uses art, poetry, performance and space as a vehicle for discussion about identity, diversity and perspectives while exploring personal, societal and communal experiences.

Bianca is very passionate about the importance of how art, advocacy, and communal/cultural environments intersect. This passion is an interchangeable balance between art, design, diversity, poetry, community development and personal engagement. Her artistic exploits have allowed her to showcase her messages nationally in cities like Chicago, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and Buffalo, as well as internationally in countries like Canada, France, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
