The monthly examination of the chakras, using color association and exploration of multiple media! Chakras are energetic power centers that form an important part of our creative identities, and are accessible through many associations ranging from color, scent and even certain foods. Understanding and unlocking these points have powerful impact on our ability to feel, embody our power, speak, sing, dance and create. In each class we use color, sound and scent to help understand the point of energy that chakra represents, using different physical art mediums to bring them up close and personal to all our senses. In May’s class our focus is on “I am,” the Root Chakra, our most physical of the chakras, associated with our sense of trust and security. The Muladhara is our “rooting” and is our most instinctive chakra, governing our survival instincts and our connectedness to our bodies as vehicles that navigate our world. It’s governed by the color red. We’ll get active in this class by exploring a physically stimulating fiber art form, Nuno Felting, and immerse ourselves in Red by making bold abstract Poppies wall hanging. The nuno process, originally from Japan, requires rolling and pressure and warm water to marry earthy wool and soft silk by using a process that feels like sculpture and induces a mindful state of movement.
Students should wear clothes with short sleeves or sleeves that can be rolled up. This is not a messy class, but it can get wet. Dress accordingly.
