The “Drums! Drums! Drums!” themed Family Concert begins in the Gymnasium with an exciting performance by the Indigenous Spirit Dancers, Native American Dance Group that was formed & created by Martin Jimerson, Jr in2018. The group are all members of the Haudenosaunee Iroquois Confederacy and as a Cultural Outreach Dance Group, are dedicated to bringing educational performances of the Indigenous Peoples, showcasing traditional songs & dances. The Indigenous Spirit Dancers have performed their storytelling for all ages at schools, the Buffalo History Museum, Canalside and sporting events such as the Buffalo Sabres, Bandits and Bisons.
The concert program continues, moving to the Auditorium with Conductor Bryan Eckerode and the Amherst Symphony Orchestra on stage; featuring Guest Artist Matthew Bassett, who became the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Timpani Principal in 200, after serving with orchestras such as New Zealand Symphony and Canton Symphony. Mr. Bassett can be heard on many commercial recordings with both the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Cleveland Orchestra. In addition to his orchestral work, Matt has taught percussion to students for over 25 years; arranging music for percussion ensemble and has written several practice manuals for his students. We are delighted to showcase Mr. Bassett as part of our drums-themed concert!
