Description

Excavating Niagara features a series of five subscriber-only Saturday afternoon workshops, in which participants are introduced to a variety of strategies for place-based listening, onsite at Artpark. Building on insights of fields such as experimental music, contemporary art, somatics, Black studies, decolonial studies, and intersectional feminism, the inquiry-based workshops focus on flexible, dynamic listening methods attuned to place-specific socio-ecological relations. Subscribers will also be able to participate in three related Thursday evening performances (August 4, 11, & 25) alongside Null Point’s professional musicians, including in a world premiere of a new work by Michael Mykola Haleta for flower pots moved around Artpark’s parking lot. Expressly designed to facilitate music making between musicians of a variety of skill levels, these performances offer a welcoming environment in which musicians with no prior training are encouraged to act as creative agents through the use of directed improvisation, non–specialist notation, and non-specialist sound sources (flower pots, water, simple electronics, etc.). No prior knowledge is required.
Subscription: $120 suggested donation (pay what you can)
