Graycliff Garden Education Series: Pruning Woody Plants for Health & Longevity
Taught by Graycliff Head Gardener Emma Hahn, an International Society of Arborists certified Arborist trained at Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum, this workshop will cover the fundamentals of shrub and small tree pruning, with a particular focus on healthcare over a long lifespan. We will cover essential pruning tools, basic cutting techniques, and timing and dosing pruning based on species and desired outcome.
Physical requirements are moderate—strong forearms and hands are necessary and we will be doing a lot of bending, kneeling, and getting up and down. Participants will be using pruning tools and carrying brush. All tools will be provided. A large percentage of this workshop will be held outdoors, please dress for the weather.
