This poetry workshop will focus on writing about moments that matter—and on the dance between memory and the present. How can poetic techniques help us preserve memories and consider them freshly? What happens when the moment of writing meets the moment of memory? How can close attention to the present connect us to earlier experiences and insights? We’ll take inspiration from a wide range of sources, in response to participants’ interests, such as Ross Gay, Mahmoud Darwish, W.S. Merwin, Denise Levertov, Harryette Mullen, Kazim Ali, and many others. This workshop warmly welcomes writers from all backgrounds and with all interests, from those interested in writing new poems to those who’d like to revisit older work, from dedicated poets to those who’d like to explore how poetry can help us in other genres and in our lives at large. Flexible. (ages 18+)
