As an artist, I am inspired by the way light transforms the world around me whether the subject is architecture, landscape, still life or floral. Shadows dappling on multiple shapes and surfaces create fascinating images for me to combine, connect and compose. This is an exciting phenomenon which I attempt to communicate through my paintings. I work primarily in transparent watercolor which I find to be a stimulating and exciting medium in spite of his technical demands. I manipulate shape, value, form and texture to make a strong personal statement. Using color to enhance my choices, I am able to create a kaleidoscopic pattern of information for the
viewer to interpret and explore in my work.

Every sheet of white paper, the genesis of each new painting, is a challenge with exciting possibilities. “Failing to plan is planning to fail,” is a memorable lesson I learned from one great teacher. It continues to delight me to work with this elusive and challenging medium and use it to create works that possess a bountiful luminous appeal.” – Rita Argen Auerbach
