MARCH 11th, 18th, + 25th • 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Create the look, texture, and feel of a realistic, lifelike cactus that will last you forever! Join Laura of LaCott Fine Art in this three-week sculptural series. We will be drawing inspiration from the Prickly Pear, Saguaro, and Cereus cacti to construct our own Faux larger than life potted, hand-painted cacti! Students will choose the type of cacti they would like to build in the first-class and will be working on that for the duration of the three classes.
We will be working with common household materials like pool noodles, spray foam, rigid insulation foam, and plaster. We will achieve details with hundreds of toothpicks, white acrylic caulking, and brush bristles tricking you into believing what you made is a real plant.
Students will be working with spray foam, plaster, and paint, so please come prepared with clothes to get dirty. We will be working with utility knives and carving tools.
Students are working on ONE finished cactus and will need to provide the pot or vessel for the cactus. Our recommendation for pot size is a medium/ large CERAMIC pot (6-10″). Please no plastic pots, as they will warp with the pressure from the spray foam!! Additional work outside of studio time is likely. Students are welcome to take their pieces home with materials- to finish setting and drying processes between classes.
