Join us for an intimate tour of 60 Argyle Park, a private residence in the heart of the Elmwood Village that was featured in local newspapers as it was being built. On December 13, 1904, the Buffalo Courier described plans for 60 Argyle Park’s construction: “The semi-private park idea, as a location for select residences, is certainly proving popular. The latest addition to the residence-park sections of Buffalo is Argyle Park in which the first lot was sold yesterday. On this site Mr. Coatsworth will build a home, quaint and artistic. The dwelling will be old English style, with a diamond panel glass, weathered oak rafters, replete with the best artistic ideas of the reign of Queen Anne.
A subsequent article on March 18, 1905 announced that: “Mr. WT Coatsworth has broken ground for his new handsome residence out of the south west corner of Argyle Park and Potomac Avenue. The dwelling will be the only one of its kind in the city. It will be built of stone and timbers in old fashioned English domestic styles of the Elizabethan period. … The contracts for the great gates of brick, stone and iron which will mark the Potomac Avenue and Delevan Avenue entrance to Argyle Park, have been awarded. Construction will begin on or before April 1st”
Since its completion, 60 Argyle Park has had several owners over the years, and has retained much of its original details that were highlighted in the newspapers in 1905. Gregory Gima is its current owner has restored this handsome residence to its former glory. Come hear the stories behind the restoration of this unique home, and enjoy some light refreshments in the spectacular garden overlooking the stone gates of the entrance to Argyle Park. This tour will be approximately ninety minutes in length.
