In preparation for Gabrielle Civil’s artist talk on Friday, January 15th @ 7pm EST, Civil’s 2014 performance Fugue (Da Montreal) (13:13) will be screened via Zoom and followed by a virtual discussion moderated by the exhibition’s curator. Performed at the Hemispheric Institute, Fugue offers a ritual meditation on emigration, cultural displacement, and ancestral re/covering. Using dirt, video loops, pockets of coffee, and ‘cut ups’ from Dany Laferrière, Civil’s performance both confronts and transforms cliches of familial loss, impossible memory, and guilt.
Full Zoom information and descriptions of other upcoming events can be found on the Being In-Between / In-Between Being online art exhibition page via the UB Art Galleries site: http://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/art/research/lower-art-gallery.html
