In celebration of Black History month, The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center (NACC) in Partnership with the WNY Urban Arts Collective is proud to announce the opening of the 10th annual “Freedom”: Artists of Color Exhibition. the Exhibit will run February 9 through March 4, 2019 in the Townsend Gallery of the NACC, 1201 Pine Ave, Niagara Falls, NY 14301.
Curated by Ray Robertson, the show will feature works by WNY Artists and is inspired by the African American experience from the historical, contemporary and personal perspective.
The exhibition features art by a diversity of artists from Rochester, Buffalo and Niagara: past artists include : Betty Pitts Foster, Markenzy Cesar, Ron Wofford, Edna Overton, Michelle Agosto, Ernst Hobbs, Phyllis L. Thompson, Jarall Adams, Richmond Futch Jr., Niia Bishop, and Youssou Lo, Valaria Cray and Sandra Ray.
“The NACC provides a much needed venue for showcasing the artistic talents of the Niagara Frontier, and serves as a beacon of opportunity for young artists of color.” Exhibit Director and Curator Ray Robertson said. “Some of the people who enter this show may never have been included in an art gallery before. Here they mingle with seasoned professionals, and hopefully everyone experiences something meaningful.”
The exhibition will also feature free admission to the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center’s newly completed ”Freedom Crossing” Underground Railroad exhibit in the Heritage Gallery and a solo photography and sculpture exhibit “Rock & Water”by Ray Robertson
The event will begin at 5 PM, on Feb 9th, with hors d’oeuvres and an opportunity to meet the featured artists and enjoy the display. The exhibit will remain on display until March 4th.
