In its brief two years of existence, Buffalo Gamelan Club – Sari Raras Irama has enchanted audiences in WNY with their breathtaking performances of traditional Javanese music. Founded by Matt Dunning in 2016, with instruments from Surakarta, Indonesia, the group specializes in playing traditional gamelan repertoire as well as forays into modern composition. This major concert at Klienhans Music Hall is a rare treat, as BGC-SRI will be joined by Pamardi Tjiptopradonggo, one of the preeminent performers of both refined and strong forms of Javanese dance.
This exciting program showcases a variety of traditional Javanese music and dance pieces from the royal Mangkunegaran Palaceand the city of Solo. It will be a great experience for those familiar with gamelan as well as newcomers to this enthralling music.
