  • Create your own handwoven circular wall hanging in an inspired and relaxing atmosphere. You’ll learn the basics of weaving on a circular loom (which becomes the finished frame for easy hanging!), receive 3 hours of hands-on instruction and plenty of ideas and encouragement. Instructional worksheet + simple supplies included for further exploration and weaving. BYOY (bring your own chunky yarn) encouraged, and alternative/upcycled fibers if you’d like.

You’ll learn the basics of weaving on a circular frame including warping and finishing, rya knots (fringe), plain weave, soumak weave (fishtail braid), and a handful of fun techniques, tips, & tricks for exploring patterns, shapes, and texture. You’ll warp your loom frame and begin weaving a small wall hanging in class, hopefully inspired to work with yarn from home, and alternative and upcycled materials you’ve brought in such as fabric/clothing/denim “yarn”,  strips of newspaper/plastic bag, yarn from thrifted sweaters or reclaimed from grandma’s yarn stash, botanical fibers like grasses or flowers, etc. Though you may not finish your weaving in class, you’ll have the tools (and a demo in class), plus a simple instructional handout, to feel confident finishing on your own.

Ages: 16 years and up – no experience necessary!

Materials: All supplies are included. A metal circular frame, wooden tapestry needle, smaller embroidery needle, cotton warp, and an instructional guide will be yours to take home. You will also have access to the yarn bar but are encouraged to BYOY (yarn).
