FIVE ALARM FUNK W/ DJ SHUB & WEST END BLEND
Five Alarm Funk
Hot, sweaty dance floors with feet stomping and every body moving. Grooves for days. Monster horns and shredding psych-rock guitars. Oh, and giant killer robots. Let’s not forget about those.
These are among the elements that make up the Five Alarm Funk experience. The Vancouver-based band is nine men strong and over a decade deep into a career that has seen it release five acclaimed albums and burn up stages across the country on four national tours. And this vehicle isn’t about to slow down. In fact, Five Alarm Funk is just picking up steam.
FAF’s stellar catalogue includes Anything Is Possible (winner of Instrumental Recording of the Year at the 2011 Western Canadian Music Awards) and Rock the Sky (which was nominated for Instrumental Recording of the Year at the 2013 WCMAs and Instrumental Album of the Year at that year’s Juno Awards.)
Five Alarm Funk’s fifth studio LP, released last June, is the hard-rocking Abandon Earth, a concept record about the destruction of Earth by a giant tyrannical robot. The band took the album’s Balkan-inspired horns, prog-metal six-string shredding, and ambitious, cinematic arrangements on tour across Canada and into the United States in the summer of 2014.
And the road goes ever on. Five Alarm Funk will hit the studio again this winter, and after that? Well, the plan is to take on the entire planet, but FAF will be happy to get the party started in the U.S. And Europe. Not to mention Australia and New Zealand.
It won’t be long before music lovers around the world learn what the group’s Canadian fans have known for years. A Five Alarm Funk show is more than a concert; it’s a high-octane, knock-your-socks-off dance party. Come prepared to get sweaty.
West End Blend
Since their conception, CT-based Funk/Soul band West End Blend has been playing their version of Funk and Soul in venues all over the Northeast. Fronted by vocalist Erica T. Bryan, the band pays homage to classic throwback sounds while adding their own distinct vibe and flair. Behind her, the Blend packs two guitars, a two-piece horn section, bass, keyboards and drums onto stages every night. From humble beginnings in an epic sweaty funky basement dance party, the Blend’s goal has always been to bring that same atmosphere to every show ever since.
The Blend released their debut full length record, “Rewind”, in the Fall of 2015. The album was recorded at Telefunken Studios with Grammy Award winning engineer, Brendan Morawski. Alongside their album release, West End Blend shared the stage with Charles Bradley, Turkuaz, members of Snarky Puppy and Lettuce, Break Science, Kung Fu, Twiddle, Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds, The Nth Power, The Motet and countless others Jam/Funk staples. On September 28th, 2016 the Blend released their latest EP “Say Hey!” as they embarked on their Fall Tour across the Northeast. Throughout their Fall tour they shared the stage with Dopapod, The Nth Power, Turkuaz, Hayley Jane & The Primates, Deep Banana Blackout and more. After ringing in the New Year alongside Turkuaz and Kung Fu is Providence, RI, the Blend took off on their 2017 Winter Tour, which spanned from Vermont down to DC and from Massachusetts out to Ohio, as the band began to emerge out of the Northeast. Throughout 2017, the band has continued to push beyond the Northeast.
