    Instructor: Katy Sloan

Katy Sloan is a Printmaker and Educator based in Buffalo, NY. Sloan will graduate from the State University of New York at New Paltz in the Spring of 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking and a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. When Sloan was living in New Paltz, she spent her time caring for and maintaining SUNY New Paltz’s professional printmaking studio as a Skilled Technician. She recently completed her senior thesis exhibition, Afterimage, and participates in juried shows including; Art Student Exhibition Series, self: SELF, Translations: Learning Through Studio Practice, and Natural World. She was also president of the Art Education Student Association (AESA). As President, she chaired the Art Education Show Committee to curate Translations: Learning Through Studio Practice. Sloan now resides in her home town of Buffalo, NY, and is a Direct Care Intern at People Inc.’s The Arts Experience. Here she co-develops, instructs, and assists with art lessons for adults with disabilities.

Born to older parents, Sloan has a sensitive eye toward the issues of death and aging. As her family continues to age, she confronts lifelong fears of death and abandonment by integrating them into her artistic practice. Creating becomes a therapeutic process as she combs through the entangled experience of living to find an understanding between herself and her fears.
