  • Join us for an afternoon workshop on the basics of Fiber Arts. An introduction to the art form and resources will be discussed, along with a brief exploration of the history of the craft and how its reinvention from traditional domestic chore to modern day art form has transformed it into powerful tool of empowerment. Students will learn the basics of working with wool and non-wool fibers. Hands on instruction will include hand spinning; students will build their own spindle and learn how to manipulate wool fibers to create a basic 2 ply yarn. All materials and tools are provided, including follow-up resources for independent study.

Ages: Most suitable for adults of all ages – no experience necessary!

    Materials: All supplies are included.

Instructor: Tami Selph of Blubird Studio

Tami is a modern fiber artist, whose work merges traditional foundations with today’s textured techniques, and vibrant colorwork.  She enjoys working with multiple fiber media, and is passionate about revitalizing and sparking new appreciation for the fiber arts through education, and inspiring and empowering a new generation of makers.  She is known for Collaborweave, an interactive weaving project which encourages community participation and creative collaboration, and her work has received awards from NY Sheep and Wool.

NOTE: All classes require a minimum number of students to run. Please sign up in advance to help avoid cancellation due to low registration. In the case of a cancellation you will be notified prior and receive a full refund. Please read our class policies.
