All activities at the event will focus on lung cancer awareness and prevention. The event will serve to educate guests on common misconceptions surrounding lung cancer and its far reaching effects. For example, lung cancer does not only affect smokers, 80% of lung cancer sufferers are non-smokers or former smokers. Take part in an art installation the celebrates more than 400,000 lung cancer survivors in the US as pay tribute to those who have lost their battle.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Lung Cancer Alliance, which works tirelessly to find a cure for the cancer that is claiming more lives in the United States than any other. Over the past 5 years we have raised over $42,000 for the Lung Cancer Alliance which provides professional support, conducts national awareness campaigns and advocates for public health dollars for lung cancer research. Recently Congress has started to recognize Lung Cancer issues with the formation of the Congressional Lung Cancer Caucus focusing efforts on educating Congress and the public on issues surrounding those suffering from this disease. Access, early detection, treatment advances, stigma attached to diagnosis and cost will all be focal points of this.
According to the Lung Cancer Alliance, lung cancer accounts for 32% of cancer deaths in the US, which is more than 430 lives lost each day.
